Flight: Alitalia AZA4000, Havana to Mexico City, A330 EI-EJK.

Incident: AW published an audio clip from LiveATC.net of Pope Francis’ flight into Mexico City being targeted by a laser from nearby hills. Other flights were similarly targeted. Hear the audio recording uploaded by AW. Story widely reported worldwide: Google Results

Airbus Beluga diverts to Liverpool with flaps problem

Flight: Airbus ‘Beluga’ Super Transporter F-GSTD from Toulouse to Hawarden/Airbus UK Broughton.

Incident: Suffered flaps problem inbound to CEG so diverted to Liverpool John Lennon due to it having a longer runway.

Flight: Virgin Atlantic VS25 London Heathrow to New York JFK, Airbus A340 G-VWKD.

Incident: Flight crew struck by laser from the ground while climbing out of LHR. Flight continued over Ireland before deciding to return. AW uploaded the audio edit from LiveATC.net, and it quickly went viral. It was already the top story on the next morning’s breakfast programmes and remained a major story all day, with interviews and questions posed from Government ministers to aviation experts.
